Previous editions of the FSG Prize[editar]

Since its creation in 2011, the Fundación Secretariado Gitano Awards recognise the commitment and efforts of people, companies, institutions, organisations or initiatives that make a significant contribution to changing the lives of the most vulnerable Roma people and/or that carry out outstanding work in the defence and support of the Roma community, in their access to citizenship, in the promotion of more equal treatment or in their social recognition. In 2015, the rules of the Awards are renewed and include five different categories and an external jury made up of different representatives from business, education, communication and culture.

The Awards Ceremony was held on 22 February 2024 at the Espacio Bertelsmann in Madrid, in a ceremony that brought together nearly 200 people from the Third Sector, public administrations, companies, education, politics, etc.

Once the 12th edition of the Awards ceremony was over, Fundación Secretariado Gitano wanted to give special recognition to Ismael Cortés, Beatriz Carrillo and Sara Giménez as former deputies members of Spanish parliament "for their commitment and contribution to the defence of the rights of the Roma during the 14th Legislature". Meritxell Batet, former president of the Spanish Parliament during the legislature, was present at the ceremony.

Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) celebrated, on 23 February 2023, the presentation of the 2022 edition of its Awards in a ceremony that brought together more than 120 people from the Third Sector, public administrations, companies, education, etc. at the Espacio Bertelsmann in Madrid.

This ninth edition of the Awards coincided with the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano. The ceremony, held on 23 February 2022, brought together more than 150 people from the Third Sector, public administrations, companies, education, etc. at the Espacio Downtown in Madrid.

The company Carrefour, the police inspector David Martín, the Plan Responde of Red Cross, the Núñez de Arenas school, the radio programme Camelamos Naquerar, on Canal Sur, and Pilar Clavería, “Tía Rona”, received the Fundación Secretariado Gitano 2020 Awards.

The 1st Vice-President of the Government, Carmen Calvo, participated in the gala of this edition held on 8 June 2020 at the Espacio Rastro Madrid. The event was presented by the journalist José Yélamo and the Fundación Secretariado Gitano worker, Celia Gabarri.

The Vice-Presidency of the Valencian Government, the Hotel Fuerte El Rompido in Huelva, the activist Manuel Vila, the 16kms Festival in La Cañada (Madrid), the journalist Minerva Oso from RNE and Tío Valentín Suárez, Fundación Secretariado Gitano 2019 Awards.

The Gala took place on 27 February 2020 at the Fundación Diario Madrid. It was a very emotional gala in recognition of all the award winners for their social, cultural or human work related to the advancement of social inclusion and equality of Roma people.

The President of Congress Ana Pastor, "la Caixa" Foundation, the SM Foundation, the RNE programme "Gitanos", the company Alcampo and the guitarist Manuel Morao were the winners at the 2018 edition of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano Awards.

On 28 February 2019, Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) held the awards ceremony for the 2018 edition of its Awards in a ceremony that brought together more than 100 people from areas such as the Third Sector, public administrations, companies, education, etc. at the headquarters of the General Society of Authors (SGAE).

In 2017, the award winners were Fundación Orange, the Regional Ministry of Education of the Castile and León Government, Canal Sur Radio and Television, Jesús Salinas Catalá, the Intergroup against Racism and in Defence of Diversity (ARDI) of the European Parliament and Juan de Dios Ramírez Heredia.

The Award Ceremony was held on 26 February, which brought together more than 100 people from the Third Sector, public administrations, companies, etc. for the third consecutive year at the headquarters of the Sociedad General de Autores (SGAE), in Madrid.

Amnesty International Europe, the filmmaker Pilar Távora, the company Gestamp, the María Sanz de Sautuola School (Santander), the nun Carmen López Arjona and the Roma activist Manuel Heredia, received the 2016 FSG Awards

Fundación Secretariado Gitano held the 2016 edition of its Awards ceremony on 23 February 2017, which brought together more than 100 people from the Third Sector, public administrations, companies, etc. at the headquarters of the Sociedad General de Autores (SGAE). The event was presented by two young Roma from the FSG core team, Ana Segovia, journalist, and Fernando Morión, teacher.

Prosecutor Miguel A. Aguilar, the Accenture Foundation, journalist Ana Pastor, the Fernando de los Ríos Institute (Granada) and Tío Pascual receive the 2015 Fundación Secretariado Gitano Awards.

The event, which took place on the afternoon of 24 February 2016, was presented by two young Roma from the FSG team: Ana Segovia, journalist, and Fernando Morión, teacher. It was opened and closed with musical performances by Pablo Rubén Maldonado, and the inaugural speech was given by Pedro Puente, founder and president of the FSG.

Roma student Leonarda Dibrani, winner of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano 2013 Award.

The Board of Trustees of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, at its plenary meeting on 18 December 2012, decided to award the Fundación Secretariado Gitano 2013 Award to the Roma girl Leonarda Dibrani, considering her a reference that symbolises the discriminatory treatment that many European Roma are suffering in recent years.

Lívia Járóka, Fundación Secretariado Gitano Award 2012, for her constant commitment to the Roma community in Europe

In 2011, the Board of Trustees of Fundación Secretariado Gitano unanimously approved the awarding of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano 2012 Award to Lívia Járóka, for her status as a Roma MEP and for her constant commitment to the European Roma community. The Board of Trustees particularly valued her contribution to the European Parliament's decision to promote the National Strategies for the Social Inclusion of the Roma, a framework of great political and historical significance that will help transform the living conditions of the Roma population in Europe.

Special "FSG-30 years" awards

In 2012 the FSG celebrated its 30th anniversary so the Board of Trustees also approved the granting of Special "FSG 30 years" Awards to those key actors by virtue of the trajectory of collaboration and accompaniment to the FSG during these years.

The award winners were:

  • Bartolomé Jiménez, Ramón Salazar, Antonio Torres, Enrique Giménez, Cayetano Vega and Valentín Suárez, for their contribution to the creation of the FSG and their participation in its governing bodies.
  • Matilde Barrio. She has been an official in charge of the Roma Development Plan since its creation in 1988.
  • Adelina Jiménez, for her contribution as a teacher, woman and Roma to the educational promotion of the Spanish Roma community.
  • Obra Social Caja Madrid for its support as a private entity for the development of the FSG's projects over the last 30 years, thus contributing to achieving a greater social impact and improving the living conditions of the Roma community.
  • José Manuel Fresno García, for his personal contribution to the construction and development of the FSG, to which he dedicated himself intensely as its director for 19 years (1986-2005), and for his decisive contribution to the promotion of the Roma community.

Teresa San Román receives the Fundación Secretariado Gitano 2011 Award for deepening knowledge of the Roma community

Teresa San Román was the winner of the first edition of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano Awards, "for deepening the knowledge of the Roma community". The anthropologist received the award with a standing ovation at the closing ceremony of the first “Conference Roma Community. Citizenship and Diversity.”
