2018 European Platform for Roma inclusion focuses on health and housing inequalities endured by Roma

The European platform for Roma inclusion brought together national governments, EU institutions, international organisations and civil society representatives. It aims to stimulate co-operation and exchanges of experience among all stakeholders on successful Roma inclusion and inclusion policies and practices.

As part of its work to promote the inclusion, equal opportunities and non-discrimination of Roma people at European level, the FSG is actively involved in the annual European platforms, including in the preparation and follow-up.

The 12th Platform meeting focused on inequalities endured by Roma in the areas of health and housing, two out of four crucial areas of the EU Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies up to 2020. All Member States have committed to this framework which was established in 2011 with a view to closing the gaps between Roma communities and the general population. In addition, this year’s event took place during a key moment as the European Commission is working on the design of a new EU Framework post 2020.

Discussions within the dedicated workshops on Roma inequalities in the areas of health and housing were followed by exchange dialogues with various stakeholders, representing EU institutions, Member State's governments, Roma NGOs, academia, etc. FSG contributed with our experience in Housing both in field work (Here) and with our researching work (here). On the same line our work in Health was shared (here)

Closing the inequality gap affecting the Roma community and guaranteeing the right to non-discrimination are at the centre of the work of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano. FSG representatives shared FSG’s vision and expertise as regards the reduction of social inequalities, the defence of rights and the promotion of more active policies for the social inclusion of the Roma population in the areas of housing and health. In addition, we shared our expertise on the use of ESI Funds for Roma inclusion based on our role as technical secretariat of the European Network on Roma Inclusion under ESI Funds (EURoma Network). This Network of transnational cooperation aims to contribute to the promotion of social inclusion, equal opportunities and fight against discrimination of the Roma community through the improvement of the use of ESI Funds for Roma inclusion.
