The Fundación Lealtad, an independent non-profit organisation, has awarded the Fundación Secretariado Gitano its NGO Accreditation Stamp. This is a hallmark, unique in Spain, which offers donors a clear and simple way of identifying NGOs which fulfil current requirements relating to transparency and efficient management. Thanks to this hallmark, donors will know (among other points) that the Fundación Secretariado Gitano concentrates its efforts in areas in which it has experience; that its communications are trustworthy and not misleading; and that information is available regarding the proportion of its costs resulting directly from its work.
“Transparency is one of the fundamental principles governing the FSG. For this reason, we carry out our activities openly and work to raise public awareness of the results of these activities; of the financial resources we invest; and of the origins of these resources”, explains Isidro Rodríguez, General Director of the FSG. “After 14 years of participation in the analyses of Transparency and Good Practice carried out and published by the Fundación Lealtad, we are renewing our commitment to these principles by working with the Fundación Lealtad in this new phase of accreditation, which has to the award of the NGO Accreditation Stamp to the NGOs involved. We receive this award with pride and with gratitude to those who place their trust in the FSG”, Rodríguez concludes.
The NGO Accreditation Stamp is valid for two years and the Fundación Secretariado Gitano is authorised to use it in its communications and fundraising materials. “Spanish society has evolved and now has higher expectations of all its institutions, including NGOs. With the stamp from the Fundación Lealtad, citizens and companies will recognise the Fundación Secretariado Gitano as an NGO to which they can donate with added assurance”, de Roda comments.
The NGO Accreditation Stamp and its rigorous award process are underpinned by the experience of the Fundación Lealtad which, since 2001, has analysed more than 270 NGOs and produced more than 1,000 reports on transparency and good practice. Its methodology has been recognised both nationally and internationally. NGOs of many different kinds can apply for the accreditation: associations and foundations; large and small NGOs; those which carry out environmental, humanitarian or development projects; and those which offer aid to underprivileged groups in Spain.

About the Fundación Lealtad:
The Fundación Lealtad is a pioneering Spanish non-profit institution, formed in 2001. Its mission is to increase the confidence placed by Spanish society in NGOs, with the aim of achieving an increase both in donations and in other forms of involvement with NGOs. The Fundación offers independent, objective and consistent information about accredited NGOs to individuals and companies. In this way it assists them in deciding which NGOs they wish to support, and in finding out how their donations will be used. The Fundación Lealtad holds, through its general director, the vice-presidency of the Governing Board of the ICFO (International Committee on Fundraising Organisations). This association brings together 18 agencies which assess the transparency and good practice of NGOs in 17 countries in Europe, America and Asia.
