Today, 9 May, Europe Day, at Fundación Secretariado Gitano we celebrate the social Europe that we have given ourselves. We welcome with expectation the upcoming elections to the European Parliament, which will be held on 9 June in all EU Member States. We hope that attention to Roma people living in poverty or social exclusion and the guarantee of rights will continue to be one of the main goals to be achieved.
The European legislature 2019-2024 has been very intense, full of unexpected challenges and marked by several crises, including the war conflicts at the borders of Europe, which has conditioned the economic and social policies of the EU. We hope that in the next 5 years of the European legislature there will be a firm commitment to strengthen social Europe, promoting the achievement of the goals set out in the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan, a roadmap for progress in equality and social cohesion.

In the current European political context of increasing racist and xenophobic discourses, it is necessary to maintain firm positions to counteract these approaches and to carry out political proposals that guarantee the founding values of the EU and the construction of a European Union for all people.
As a priority, we believe that the European institutions should promote the following 10 measures and initiatives:
