The Fundación Secretariado Gitano played a very active role in these two days of sessions, entitled ‘The role of NGOs in training vulnerable people’ in Madrid, Spain. This event is part of the activities of the Community of Practice on Employment, Education and Skills, which explores how NGOs contribute to reducing the skills gap and labour shortages through training initiatives supported by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).

We had the opportunity to share our experience in implementing our Acceder employment programme, providing some key insights into how the Acceder programme for the employment of the Roma population is a unique tool that offers positive results and experiences for both individuals and companies, and what the role of the ESF+ is in caring for vulnerable people.

At the same time, we were able to share the vital importance of training, as training people through Acceder makes it possible to match job offers with the right candidates, which is beneficial for all parties involved. Finally, we welcomed participants to our integration company Uzipen e Hispaled, where they were able to see first-hand the diversity of professional services and the positive results offered by this

This event brought together ESF+ stakeholders, NGOs and managing authorities to analyse the fundamental role of the social economy in training and work-based learning for socially disadvantaged groups, including the Roma community.

The ESF+ Community of Practice (CoP) on Employment, Education and Skills seeks to support its members by organising mutual learning events, producing reports and other documents on topics related to education, employment and skills. It focuses primarily on the following topics: modernising employment services to improve the management of transitions to the labour market; ESF/ESF+ support for vulnerable young people; and improving the resilience of education and training systems.
