We joined thousands of young people from across the EU aged 16-30 at the European Youth Event (EYE) to share ideas with policy makers, experts and young people from different countries on the future of Europe.

On 13 and 14 June, more than ten thousand young people, including our colleague José Santos, who is also part of the FSG's group of Facilitators for Participation, met at the European Parliament in Strasbourg to debate and share opinions on different issues that will define the future of European youth. On this occasion, we participated as part of a delegation from the Spanish Youth Council, formed by a group of 11 people from different regional youth organisations and councils.

In addition to a wide variety of conferences, workshops and activities, this delegation of 11 young people had the opportunity to meet and discuss directly with Marcos Ros MEP, from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, about the functioning of the European Parliament and various issues of concern to young people.

About the experience, José says that ‘it has been very exciting to see the Chamber in person, a place where decisions so relevant to our daily lives are taken, and to be able to debate and reflect with thousands of young people on issues that affect all young people and on others that specifically affect young Roma, such as discrimination and hate speech’.

We are pleased that once again Roma youth have been present and that it has been an enriching experience. We hope that more and more young Roma will be encouraged to participate in these spaces and from the Fundación Secretariado Gitano we will continue to promote the participation of Roma youth so that their voices and opinions are also heard in Europe.
