Fundación Secretariado Gitano celebrates the extraordinary results achieved with its digital skills training programme, in which female participation has played a leading role.

During 2025, our project ‘Roma in Digital’ has carried out significant activity throughout the country. The initiative has exceeded all expectations, establishing itself as a decisive action for social inclusion and equal opportunities, reaching a total of 2 114 editions of its training courses. This effort has resulted in a resounding success in terms of attendance and achievement: 9 067 training activities have been successfully completed.

A particularly relevant fact and a source of pride for the organisation is the strong female presence in the classrooms: 65% are women, demonstrating the enormous interest and commitment of Roma women to acquiring key digital skills for their personal and professional development.

To ensure accessible, face-to-face, quality training, the project has relied on 88 digital educators, although a total of 160 professionals have collaborated in the smooth running of the project, working intensively from the 82 offices that Fundación Secretariado Gitano has in a total of 14 Spanish regions.

Practical training for everyday life

The programme's success lies in its practical approach, with 8-hour courses adapted to all levels and geared towards real everyday needs. Participants have been able to train on eight key pathways, ranging from digital job searching and online business management to internet safety, digital wellbeing and administrative procedures.

The project has achieved 78.6% implementation, an indicator that endorses the operational capacity of Fundación Secretariado Gitano and its ability to respond to social demands. The management of the project has been based on systematic planning, territorial coordination and the continuous improvement of teaching materials and dynamics.

Towards a future without barriers

These actions are part of the ‘Generación D’ initiative, promoted by Red.es, an entity attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration through the Secretariat of State for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence. With a total budget of €45 million for the training of older people, people with disabilities, vulnerable people and the population without basic digital skills, the actions are financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan through the European Union's Next Generation funds, within the framework of investment 1 of Component 19, National Digital Skills Plan.

Buoyed by the achievements of this first year, Fundación Secretariado Gitano reaffirms its commitment to continue building a fairer society where technology is a bridge and not a barrier.

Looking ahead to next year, the aim is to continue scaling up this impact, with the goal of reaching a total of 12 000 certified students, ensuring that more and more Roma people feel comfortable, confident and competent in the digital environment.
