Education [editar]
The right to a quality education for Roma children is key to their future. However, the educational inequality of Roma students is increasing. At Fundación Secretariado Gitano we work to achieve equity in education.
Six out of ten young Roma do not successfully complete compulsory secondary education. The high early leaving rate during compulsory education is one of the most important challenges facing the education system and Roma families. The public authorities are responsible for guaranteeing the right to education in order to make real progress towards a more egalitarian society.
Educational success for Roma students is possible
This is demonstrated by the results of the 4 981 young people who spent the last year in our educational programmes.

"It is not fair that because you are born into an ethnic group, you have fewer opportunities than other people’
Tania Heredia, student

‘I would ask politicians to look out for those of us who want to study, to encourage us to be role models for future generations’
Javier Romero, university student

‘Support for students is essential. I had the support of FSG and I found the strength and the desire to study’
Lidia Lozano, student
Bridging the inequality gap. For equity in education.

School stage
We accompany students throughout their journey with school support and personalised guidance so that they finish secondary education and continue studying.

Post-compulsory studies
We support post-compulsory studies to complete intermediate and higher degrees. We promote adult education.

Political and social advocacy
We advocate for public authorities to implement plans to prevent Roma students from leaving school early and to combat school segregation.
Our featured education programmes:

Promociona
We support Roma students in the final years of primary education and in compulsory secondary education so that they can obtain a secondary education certificate and promote their access to post-compulsory education.

Promociona T
We prevent situations of absenteeism and school early leaving, as well as improve the level of education from pre-school to compulsory primary and secondary education.

Promociona +
We work to ensure that students in post-compulsory education complete their studies, through the FSG-Luis Sáez Scholarships; with the Diploma of specialisation in social intervention with the Roma community and supporting the Ambassadors for Education
