Fundación Telefónica and Fundación Secretariado Gitano join forces to promote school success and equal opportunities for Roma students [editar]

Sara Gimenez, General Director of Fundación Secretariado Gitano and Luis Prendes, General Director of Fundación Telefónica, have signed the agreement that will allow the implementation of educational, training and awareness actions to reduce the school failure rate of Roma students and promote their development opportunities.
According to the report The educational situation of Roma students in Spain, the school drop out rate of Roma youth between 16 and 24 years of age is 63%, compared to 4% for the general population. This situation has a negative impact on the opportunities for progress of Roma.
In this context, Fundación Telefónica and Fundación Secretariado Gitano join forces to support Roma boys and girls in completing their studies and to promote their opportunities for employment and advancement in society.
They will do so under the framework of the Promociona educational programme, which began in 2009 with the support of the European Social Fund to address this situation and which is now joined by the Telefónica Foundation through actions aimed at achieving the educational success of Roma students, including training activities in digital skills for the Roma population, as well as raising awareness of the problems faced by this community. In addition, they will make available to Roma students all the knowledge and solidarity of Telefónica volunteers, as well as their innovative facilities on the 42 programming campus or the Espacio Fundación Telefónica.
