Princess of Girona Award – Organisation 2015, for its work promoting the inclusion of Roma youth

In 2015, the Fundación Secretariado Gitano was awarded the Princess of Girona Foundation Award (FPdGI) Organisation 2015 for its work in support of young people, particularly in promoting entrepreneurship, employability and job placement, education and academic success, vocation and talent.

The Golden Cross, twice over

  • The awarding of the Golden Cross of the Civil Order of Social Solidarity, from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, presented by Queen Sofía on 29 January 2002. This was a very important moment in the history of the organisation, which also represented recognition for the Spanish Roma community.
  • Five years later, in 2007, the president and founder of the FSG, Pedro Puente, received the same recognition. Queen Sofía awarded him the Golden Cross of the Civil Order of Social Solidarity, for his defence of the rights of the Roma’.

Recognising quality and service to the Roma community

  • In 2023, we received the Emilia Pardo Bazán Medal from the Regional Government of Galicia. This recognised the work of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano in promoting the social inclusion of the Roma population and, in particular, the advancement of Roma women.
  • In 2020, the FSG conducted a survey on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Roma. This survey was recognised by the European Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) as a ‘promising practice for developing policies to respond to the pandemic’.
  • In 2019, we were honoured at the Andalucía + Social 2019 Awards.
  • In 2015, we received the IX José Lorca Award for the Promotion and Defence of Children's Rights in the Region of Asturias. We also received the Award for Quality in Social Services from the Government of Navarre and the 'Tomás y Lydia Recari García' Foundation.
  • In 2011, the FSG and its president, Pedro Puente, were awarded the Enrique Maya Award by the Community of Madrid together with the Roma associations in the region ‘for their service to the Roma’.
  • Pedro Puente's work was also recognised in 2008 by the Hogar de la Esperanza Association of León, which awarded him the ‘Roma 2008’ prize for his work on behalf of the Roma community.

  • “Young Person 2003 Award for Social Work” from the Community of Madrid
  • Solidarity Award from Unión FENOSA (recognising, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution, 25 entities that have stood out for their social action during this period).
