We launch a new edition of Learning by Doing [editar]
Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) is launching a new edition of Learning by Doing, a dual training programme that will enable 240 young Roma from 12 Spanish cities to improve their skills, train in companies and take a decisive step towards their inclusion in the labour market.
This new edition of the Learning by Doing programme has 12 training pathways that will offer 240 young people under the age of 30 the opportunity to improve their professional skills and gain real experience in companies from different sectors.
Dual training to transform lives
Starting in February, students will participate in a six-month comprehensive learning process that combines:
- Personal and professional support from a tutor.
- Theoretical training, designed in collaboration with partner companies.
- Practical training in real work environments, with rotation through different positions.
This dual training methodology allows young people to develop key skills and gain work experience directly linked to market needs.
Companies committed to inclusion
Once again this year, companies such as Carrefour, Alcampo and El Corte Inglés are working closely with Fundación Secretariado Gitano to select students, design training content, deliver theoretical sessions and tutor professional work experience. Their involvement is essential to offering real employment opportunities to young Roma who are currently unemployed and have left the education system.
More than a decade of creating opportunities
With more than 10 years of experience, Learning by Doing has already reached 3 764 young people in 41 cities in Spain, with a very positive impact on both their personal development and their access to employment.
The results speak for themselves:
- 55% of students have got an employment contract.
- 32% have resumed their studies.
- 87% say their lives have improved after participating.
- 94% of participating companies would repeat the experience.
An initiative made possible by shared effort
This edition is being developed thanks to funding from the European Social Fund, within the framework of the Youth Employment Programme, and co-financing from the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation and the Castile and León Public Employment Service.
Ongoing commitment to labour inclusion
At Fundación Secretariado Gitano, we continue to promote measures tailored to the needs of young Roma, with the aim of promoting their access to employment and improving their living conditions. To move forward on this path, it is essential to have the collaboration of social entities, public administrations, private organisations and companies that are committed to equal opportunities.
