On 1 March, the Fundación Secretariado Gitano in a joint collaboration with Accenture, and thanks to its financing, has launched a specialized training in the PHP computer programming language on the Laravel framework.

Technology has transformed the labour market, and the occupation of programmers continues to be one of the most demanded by the sector due to their transversality. Programming is the basis of many systems as well as the heart of the business for many companies.

From the Fundación Secretariado Gitano we have launched several courses with different programming languages for a standard (JAVASCRIPT, JAVA, HTML, Python….), with the aim that the young Roma can also have access to these technological vacancies that the job market is demanding.

The motivation and the commitment of our 15 participants (12 men and 3 women) in this course have been evidence both in the selection tests, which were faced by a total of 32 young Roma, as well as in the beginning of the training. This course will take place over two months with a length of 210 hours of theory, followed in May by100 hours of nonwork practices in companies.

The participation of three women in this course is a success and a step forward towards minimizing the gender gap that exists in the world of technology which is traditionally very masculinized.

This training is carried out in a 100% online format with content hosted on different training platforms (including FundAula of Accenture) and will be supervised, reinforced and guided by an expert trainer in PHP and Laravel and with extensive experience in the field, training and application development.

This online format has made it possible to form a group of participants from the Fundación Secretariado Gitano from different locations such as: A Coruña, Albacete, Gijón, Granada, Murcia, Oviedo, Santander, Seville, Valladolid and Zamora.

The training is carried out thanks to the financing of Accenture's Training for a Digital Future 2.0 program, which has also guided us in the design of the training pathway with the selection and validation of the contents that make up the course. It also has the support of Iniciativas Europeas de Formación S.L., a training provider specialized in technology, which makes its training platform available to students and teachers to deepen the proposed content and as a space for collaborative learning and teamwork.
