Our 2025/2026 academic year of the online Compulsory Secondary Education Certificate programme has concluded on a very positive note, both in terms of participation and academic results. The initiative, which forms part of the Social Inclusion, Youth Guarantee and Fight against Poverty Programme and the Youth Employment Programme (both funded by the ESF+), has enabled more than 85 people from 35 cities, aged between 18 and 47, to access this educational opportunity.

The students are part of the Acceder Programme’s social and labour market inclusion pathways, and have found this online format to be a flexible way of balancing their academic studies with their efforts to improve their employability. The methodology, centred on support and adaptation to the needs of adults, has facilitated access to the qualification in an accessible and motivating environment.

One of the key moments of the course took place last May, when the students travelled to Madrid to sit their final exams. This trip represented one of the programme’s main challenges, both due to logistical difficulties and the associated fears and insecurities. However, the students’ collective effort and motivation made it possible to successfully overcome this obstacle, tackling the exams with commitment and determination.

The results of the course reflect the positive impact of the initiative: 90% of students enrolled at levels equivalent to years 3 and 4 of secondary education have obtained their secondary education certificate, whilst 85% of students at the introductory levels have progressed to the next year group. These figures demonstrate not only academic achievement but also the participants’ resilience and perseverance.

Following the end of the academic year, Fundación Secretariado Gitano is already working on preparations for the next academic year (2026/2027), with the aim of continuing to expand opportunities for basic education and improving access to employment for participants in the Acceder Programme, thereby consolidating an approach that has proven to be effective and inclusive.
