On 29 and 30 July, Madrid hosted the emotional closing ceremony of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano's TándEM 2024/25 programmes, an initiative that has transformed the lives of dozens of young people through dual training and employment.

Over two days, the student-workers from the five TándEM sub-programmes came together to celebrate the end of a training experience that has left a deep mark on their personal and professional trajectories.

TándEM is an innovative work-study training programme aimed at young people under the age of 30 who are unemployed. Promoted by the Spanish Public Employment Service as part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and financed with European Next Generation funds, this programme began on 2 September 2024 and will officially end on 1 September 2025.

During this year, participants have followed a comprehensive pathway of theoretical and practical professional training, aimed at improving their employability, self-esteem and personal skills. Beyond technical learning, they have built relationships, discovered talents and overcome challenges with determination.

The closing ceremony began with a relaxed dinner between coordinators and students, marked by camaraderie and laughter. The following day, at the Impact Hub in Madrid, there were a visit to the exhibition ‘600 Years of the Roma People,’ which delved into their history and culture, followed by a workshop on communication and job searching. The event concluded with the presentation of diplomas, recognising the effort and progress of the TándEM groups in an atmosphere of excitement and hope.

The TándEM programme has demonstrated that when investment is made in people, real opportunities for change are created. Dual training, constant support and a comprehensive approach have been key to many participants taking a firm step towards social and labour market inclusion.

Fundación Secretariado Gitano would like to thank all the individuals, companies, collaborating entities and spaces that have made this journey possible. This edition will formally come to an end on 1 September, but the impact of the experience will continue long after, because talent is everywhere and, thanks to programmes such as TándEM, there are more and more doors open to discover it.
