‘Verano RomIA’: learning about Artificial Intelligence in a creative, practical and responsible way [editar]
Fundación Secretariado Gitano is launching a summer educational programme aimed at students from Year 5 to Year 10, which introduces Artificial Intelligence through an active, accessible and critical approach, as part of the Digital Curriculum and Summer Schools initiative.
This summer, Fundación Secretariado Gitano is launching ‘Verano RomIA’ (RomIA Summer), an initiative aimed at students in the Promociona Programme, offering an introduction to Artificial Intelligence from a perspective that is understandable, practical and tailored to different age groups.
The programme has been designed to provide an initial grounding in AI without resorting to technical approaches. Through a progressive pathway, students learn to distinguish between systems that follow fixed rules and those that learn from data, understand how basic models work, and discover why they require training, testing and review to deliver reliable results.
From a methodological perspective, ‘Verano RomIA’ is committed to experience-based learning. The sessions combine play, movement, hands-on activities and cooperative exercises with the guided use of digital tools. Each activity is based on active participation to facilitate the understanding of key concepts, positioning technology as a resource at the service of learning, rather than as the centre of the activity.
The content covered includes classification by image, sound and pose, error identification, bias detection, information verification and the responsible use of generative AI. Furthermore, this initiative incorporates a cross-cutting dimension of digital ethics, addressing issues such as privacy, personal data protection, accessibility and responsibility in the use of these technologies.
Beyond simply using tools, ‘Verano RomIA’ promotes a conscious relationship with Artificial Intelligence, helping students understand that it is not an automatic or infallible solution, but rather a technology that can be understood, questioned and improved.
Through this initiative, Fundación Secretariado Gitano reinforces its commitment to an inclusive, critical digital education that is connected to today’s challenges. ‘Verano RomIA’ turns the summer into an opportunity to learn through creativity, play and shared reflection, helping children and teenagers to develop the skills needed to be informed, responsible and engaged citizens.
