14 Spanish NGOs, leaders in the fight against discrimination, welcome the progress made in the creation of the Independent Authority for Equal Treatment and recall the importance of providing it with sufficient resources. [editar]

The Alliance for the Comprehensive Law on Equal Treatment , made up of fourteen spanish NGOs that are leaders in the fight against different forms of discrimination, welcomes the fact that the Ministry of Equality has made progress in the preparatory work for the royal decrees necessary for the creation of the Independent Authority for Equal Treatment, as they have been able to confirm after the first coordination meetings that have recently been held.

On 12 July 2022, the Integral Law for Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination was finally approved, a historic moment that was widely welcomed and acknowledged by the Alliance. This law constitutes an essential instrument to fight discrimination and to comply with the principle of equality in a broad and comprehensive manner, one of its central mandates being the creation of the Independent Authority.

This body, in addition to being a requirement under European anti-discrimination law, is central to the implementation of the Act. Among its various functions, it is responsible for monitoring compliance with equal treatment regulations, conducting investigations into the existence of possible situations of particularly serious discrimination, bringing legal action in the most serious cases of discrimination, and requesting action by the State Administration to sanction conduct constituting an administrative offence.

The Alliance for the Comprehensive Law on Equal Treatment reminds that this essential requirement must be fulfilled as soon as possible and must be provided with sufficient resources to have a strong structure and fulfil the functions established in European directives and in the Equal Treatment Act itself, guaranteeing that in practice complaints and denunciations in cases of discrimination are resolved in a satisfactory manner.
