Romani Lesson[editar]
Romani Lesson an awareness campaign to promote knowledge about Roma people.On 16th November, 2018, International Day for Tolerance also Flamenco Day, the Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) was presented in Madrid, in the National Library #RomaniLesson, "The Lost Chapter of the History Books". An awareness campaign aiming to contribute to the knowledge of the Roma people, to combat the prejudices and discrimination that still suffers.
The content of the campaign was collected in the book "Romani Lesson". It has 54 pages divided into 3 chapters, it presents a history of persecution and pain, but also resistance, overcoming and dignity, as well as the Roma contribution to the common social and cultural heritage. Among the pieces of the campaign there is also a video of sixty seconds, the microsite www.lecciongitana.org, a leaflet and a poster.
According to Isidro Rodríguez, general director of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, "with the Roma Lesson we want to draw attention to the great ignorance that the majority of Spanish society has about an essential part of its members: the Roma community". Rodriguez also stressed that "Roma Lesson is an invitation to break the ignorance, prejudice, rejection or indifference. It is a call of attention to know the richness of the historical and cultural contribution of the Roma People as well as to know an identity, values and customs that are also patrimony of the society as a whole ".
"we need to know our history, our precious culture, the legacy that our elders have given us; and above all, that we value the progress that, in spite of the difficulties and the persistent inequality, we are playing the role of the Roma for generations. It is time to teach this "Roma Lesson" to be known for what we really are, "says Sara Giménez, lawyer, director of the Department of Equality and Fight against Discrimination of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano.
During the RomaWeek event 2019 in Brussels a full translation of the document will be presented at the European Parliament.
