Training and employment for the Roma

On 1 December, 2021 Fundación Secretariado Gitano launched the awareness campaign 'The Challenge of Tomorrow', the second phase of the 'Bread Tomorrow' campaign with which we vindicate the right of the Roma to decent employment and the need for achieve equal opportunities, training and employment for people furthest from the labour market. A metaphor between access to employment and canyoning has served as a creative axis to create different audiovisual pieces and make visible the importance of employment in the lives of the Roma people.

The main piece of this campaign, funded by the programme ‘For Solidarity. Other Social Purposes’ of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, is this documentary by Roma filmmaker Pablo Vega, produced by the creative agency Implícate.

Its protagonists are four Roma people, Isabel, Eleazar, Joaquín and Manuela, who, after participating at the Acceder programme of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, have found work. The creative idea behind the campaign was to go beyond a corporate video or testimonials and get to know the protagonists in a special context, living a unique experience with them. This allows us to delve deeper into their stories, their opinions and the achievements of the Acceder programme from a humanistic perspective. We accompany the protagonists as they set themselves a common challenge, as an analogy for entering the job market. The parallel is based on the phases we see: first, setting a challenge, preparing to overcome it, and then going for it.

Campaign The Challenge of Tomorrow

‘I've been training and taking courses until I found what I really like, which is working with the public (...) If I could go back in time, I would choose to continue studying.’

Joaquín Amador [editar]

Campaign The Challenge of Tomorrow

'Programmes such as Acceder should be there to help people who deserve a chance. If I had gone to the company on my own, I wouldn't be working there, because they don't usually give you the opportunity.'
