Roma Health Project expert team shared advances in Greece [editar]

The past September (22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2008) Athens hosted the Second Steering Committee and the First Transnational Expert Group of the project “Health and the Roma Community, analysis of the situation in Europe” funded by the European Union in the framework o the Public Health Programme.

These meetings were organised for exchanging results on the ongoing process of diagnosis of the social/health situation of the Roma community in particular about the cross sample definition, universe and methodology of the survey.

The participants, the coordination team of the project and experts of each participating country (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic and Spain) mainly from the statistical research institutes, emphasised the importance to share the different process of the survey to strength the European level of this programme.

At the moment, the participating countries have defined their sample and universe to apply the survey and based on a common structure a transnational report will be drafted. The objective is to do an action proposal and recommendations document targeting different key players in the social/health domain. Recommendations will have a specific national focus adapted to each context but will also have a European dimension giving a broader view of the subject and a wider scope of application.
