All around the world April 8th is commemorated as the International Roma Day

This date reminds the World Roma Congress held in London on April 8th of 1971 in which the flag and the Roma anthem were instituted and of which 40 years are fulfilled in 2011.

April 8th is acquiring in the last years great reputation, as an occasion for celebrations and communications from national and European institutions and organizations.

FSG has released the online version of the commemorative sign for the 2011 International Roma Day. As previous years the FSG has requested Montse Motos Jiménez, a Spanish Roma designer, to create a sign and a bookmark in its English and Spanish versions. This year the poster commemorates the 40th anniversary of the World Roma Congress, an occasion when the Roma anthem and flag were instituted. The lyrics of the anthem: Gelem, Gelem is included in the bookmark.

We have enabled a section on the website of the FSG with all the relevant information for the International Roma Day (in Spanish), both from this year 2011 as from previous years (posters, press releases, links ...).
