FSG participated at seminar “Which steps towards European policies against anti-Gypsyism” held in Brussels on 15th November [editar]

The seminar aimed to encourage policy-makers to significantly step up their efforts in combatting anti-Gypsyism in the short and mid-term.

The seminar was hosted by the Open Society Foundations and Michael Roth, Minister of State for Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office. It took place under the auspices of the European Commission High Level Group on combating racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance.

The meeting counted with the participation of representatives of some of the most relevant NGO´s in the fight against Anti-gypsyism. In addition, representatives of institutions like European Commission and European Parliament and member states such as Italy or Slovakia also participated. The topics explored promising practices throughout the EU and promoted the benefits of governmental coordination, trainings of civil servants and multipliers, funds for cultural and dialogue programmes, media initiatives, and monitoring mechanisms.

From the FSG, highlight the work that we are doing against antigypsyism in programmes such as the “Victims of Racial or Ethnic Discrimination Service”, where support to victims of antigypsyism is given. But also other programmes such as Net-Kard developed in 2014 consisting on training sessions aiming to raise awareness among key actors in the fight against antigypsyism such as lawyers, police forces, media and NGO´s. Also from this project four guides were made to serve as tool for those key agents. (You can download these guides from the attached documents above)
