Selene Jiménez, from Palencia, took part in this seminar in order to build community and participation among Roma youth in Europe.

From 5 to 8 April, a delegation of young Roma men and women from different European countries met in Strasbourg as part of the Roma Youth Together seminar, an event designed to strengthen the participation of Roma youth in European democratic processes and make their challenges and proposals visible.

This year, Selene Jiménez, from Palencia, a member of the group of Facilitators of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, took part in the event, adding to the work already started in previous editions to promote the participation of European Roma youth. The event, held at the headquarters of the Council of Europe, was an opportunity for Roma youth to express their concerns to key actors who influence the design of policies that affect all European citizens.

Selene shared her experience with emotion: "Sharing these days in Strasbourg with young Roma from so many countries has been something that I will carry in my heart. I felt part of a big family, connected by our roots, our stories and our desire to change things. Celebrating 8 April together was very special, a moment of pride, emotion and unity that I will never forget".

A seminar to build community and participation

The seminar programme included workshops on youth participation, advocacy and sessions focused on human rights education. In addition, evening activities such as competitions, cinema and storytelling sessions were organised to strengthen the links between participants.

One of the most significant moments was the visit to the Council of Europe and the meeting with the Commissioner for Human Rights, where the young people presented their proposals and conclusions.

The Fundación Secretariado Gitano promotes the participation of young people in this type of European initiatives, which are enriching spaces both on a personal and collective level.
