The members of the Advisory Panel of the Fundamental Rights Platform (FRP) of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) met in Vienna on 19-20 November 2012.

The Advisory Panel consists of nine members, six of whom are elected by participants of the FRP at the annual meeting of the FRP, the remaining three being appointed by the agency’s Director.

This year, the Director of FRA, Morten Kjaerum, decided to appoint the Roma lawyer and head of the Area for Equal Treatment of the FSG, Sara Giménez, as member of this Advisory Panel. It is a milestone for the FRA and the Roma community, as it is the first time in the history of the FRA that a Roma person is part of this Panel.

Advisory Panel members serve a two-year term that can be renewed once. The composition of the Advisory Panel is gender balanced and reflects a diverse selection of civil society organisations and nationalities.

The current members are the following:

Sara Giménez, who attended the meeting accompanied by Javier Sáez, territorial coordinator of the Area for Equal Treatment of the FSG, offered the perspective of the Roma community in order to establish future strategic lines of action within the FRA until 2015. Among other contributions, she proposed that the FRA should monitor more closely the implementation of Equality Directive 2000/43 in relation to discrimination on grounds of race or ethnicity in the Member States.
