The FSG and the photographer Eva Parey receive the Revela Award For the photographic project ‘Nómadas a la Fuerza’ (“Nomads by force”) and a social intervention project related to the problems of the Romanian Roma population.

The Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) and the photographer Eva Parey received the Revela Award, for jointly presenting the photographic project ‘Nómadas a la Fuerza’ (“Nomads by Force”) and a social intervention project related to the problems of the Romanian Roma population reflected in it.

Revela is the first International Photography Prize awarded to Holders of Social Rights, a model of photographic competition that is different from the conventional ones, since the winning subject is not the photographer him/herself but the social group that is photographed.

‘Nómadas a la Fuerza’ (“Nomads by Force”) is a testimony of the trajectory of Roma people between the town of Murgeni (Romania) and Spain and of their precarious life, showing that insufficient schooling perpetuates the disadvantages of Roma and entrenches their social exclusion. It promotes the education of Roma youth, a field of activity in which the FSG has acquired extensive experience.

A school in Boldesti, focus of the project

The social project complemented by the photographic project 'Nomadas a la Fuerza' is an educational project undertaken during the academic year 2012-2013 in a school in Boldesti (Prahova) in Romania. The project includes the support and the educational monitoring of Roma students, as well as mediation with their families so that they value the importance of schooling their children. Alongside, a plan will be developed to document graphically and visually the most relevant actions of the educational project, as well as the beneficiaries' perceptions.
