Fundación Secretariado Gitano launches a new edition of the ‘Training with a Guarantee’ employment programme to combat unemployment among young Roma

This new edition of Training with a Guarantee will be rolled out in 32 cities in Spain and will enable 384 young Roma under the age of 30 and beneficiaries of the National Youth Guarantee System to improve their personal skills for training and employment.

This initiative begins in March, and in each city where it is implemented, a training pathway will be proposed with social support in which a group of 12 young people under 30 years of age will receive training in different content areas over the course of 4 phases:

  • Knowledge: learning to manage emotions, practising active listening, etc.
  • Activation: developing personal and digital skills and job search skills.
  • Training: learning about the professional skills required for a particular job or position.
  • Employment: putting what has been learnt into practice through work experience in companies.

The situation of young Roma in Spain is very serious. 63% of young Roma people, between the ages of 16 and 29, are not studying and are not working. Furthermore, only 17% of the Spanish Roma population has completed Compulsory Secondary Education. When additional barriers like a lack of economic resources or discrimination are present, finding a job becomes nearly impossible for these young people.

Faced with this situation, Fundación Secretariado Gitano, through its Acceder Programme, continues to promote measures adapted for the labour inclusion of the Roma in general, and of young people in particular. In 2025, we will continue to develop ‘Integrated Pathways to Inclusion for Roma Youth’ and the ‘Programme to Improve the Employability of Young Roma: Learning by Doing and Training with a Guarantee, within the framework of the ESF+ Youth Employment Programme 2021-2027. These actions are co-financed by the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation. We hope that in a second phase, starting in September, we will be able to start Training with a Guarantee in 21 other cities, giving another 252 Roma the opportunity to improve their employability.
