Alcampo supermarkets and Fundación Secretariado Gitano take stock of 2024: 36 training courses, 200 people trained and 71 people hired

Alcampo and Fundación Secretariado Gitano have worked together to promote the employability and social inclusion of Roma. 200 people, mainly youngsters, have received training and 71 of them are already part of the Alcampo workforce.

These 200 people, most of them under 30 years of age (70%) have been able to participate in different face-to-face training, online or both, aimed at promoting training, improving employability and facilitating the inclusion of participants in the labour market.

A total of 36 courses have been carried out, of which 31 have been work experience that have allowed students to complement theoretical training, learn about the labour market and train the habits and skills necessary to perform a job.

These experiences are provided under three formats: professional training actions, “Learning by Doing” and “Training with a Guarantee”. The first one includes training actions of variable duration oriented to some of the specific positions in a supermarket, such as order preparer, stocker or cashier assistant. “Learning by Doing”, on the other hand, is a 6-month dual training programme, in which the trainees spend 5 months in an Alcampo center following a pathway through different professional profiles. “Training with a Guarantee” is a training action aimed at young people under 30 to prepare them for their first steps in the labour market.

With regard to online training, in addition to that provided by Fundación Secretariado Gitano, Alcampo has provided, from its training centre, 5 courses that have served as a complement to the work experiences of 76 people. All the courses are aimed at acquiring knowledge in the professions of the trade and customer service (butchers, fishmongers, confectioners, bakers, greengrocers) as well as for cashiering, restocking or warehouse positions.

According to Cristina Serra, Human Resources operational director: “At Alcampo we believe in equal opportunities and diversity, something we demonstrate with deeds and not just words. We are clear that diversity is wide, rich, extensive and is the cornerstone of social justice. We will continue to collaborate with Fundación Secretariado Gitano and to work for social justice, as well as to contribute to the creation of a world where we all fit”.

In the words of Sara Giménez, director general of Fundación Secretariado Gitano “the alliance with strategic companies such as Alcampo is a key instrument to achieve equal opportunities for the population with the most difficulties through training and employment. The commitment of different agents of society towards the same objective is the path to a more egalitarian society”.

Alcampo has been actively collaborating with Fundación Secretariado Gitano since 2014, maintaining a firm commitment to work together for the labour inclusion of groups in vulnerable situations or at risk of social exclusion.

Alcampo is a company with a large presence in Spain, which brings together hypermarket and supermarket formats. It currently employs 23 000 people and operates 531 centres (79 hypermarkets and 452 supermarkets).
