The latest meeting of the Network, whose technical secretariat is provided by Fundación Secretariado Gitano, brought together representatives of Roma National Contact Points and ESF+/ERDF authorities from 12 partner countries, as well as representatives of the European Commission and other relevant actors from the host country.
The EURoma Network (European Network for Roma Equality through European Funds) held its last meeting on 24-25 October in Budapest. Representatives of the Network's partner authorities (National Contact Points for National Roma Strategies and ESF+ and ERDF authorities from 15 Member States), as well as the European Commission and other relevant actors from the host country discussed how to improve the use of European Funds (in particular ESF+ and ERDF) to promote social inclusion, equal opportunities and anti-discrimination of the Roma population.
At this meeting, particular attention was paid to how to ensure that interventions implemented with a territorial approach (e.g. through local or regional development plans...) take into account Roma and other disadvantaged groups. Other topics discussed included policy and financial developments relevant to Roma equality and inclusion, the consideration of Roma children in the implementation of the Child Guarantee, the alignment between the national strategic frameworks for Roma equality, inclusion and participation and the ESF+ and ERDF, as well as the future of the European Cohesion Policy (in which these funds are framed) beyond 2027.
Participants also had the opportunity to learn more about the Hungarian context, including the situation of Roma people, the policy and financial framework related to Roma equality and inclusion, as well as specific experiences, especially those related to the use of a territorial approach.
The EURoma Network meetings, which bring partners together twice a year, are one of the Network's key instruments for the analysis and discussion of key developments linked to the policy framework and financial instruments (in particular ESF+ and ERDF) to promote Roma equality, inclusion and non-discrimination as well as for exchange and mutual learning among Network partners. Previous meetings were held in Rome earlier this year and in Madrid in 2023. These meetings are also supported by the European Centre of Competence for Social Innovation.
