The FSG's Network of Participation Facilitators reflects on the future Youth Law at the 9th State Meeting on Participation and Youth

The Network of Participation Facilitators of Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) participated in the 9th State Meeting on Participation and Youth, entitled ‘Nomadic Voices, participating from our history and culture’.

This event brought together young Roma from all over Spain to reflect on and debate key issues related to Roma youth and culture.

The FSG Facilitators Group met on 18-20 October in Madrid. The inauguration of the meeting was attended by Adrián Arias, Head of Cabinet of the Minister for Youth and Children, and Mayte Suárez, Deputy Director General for Participation and Talent of Fundación Secretariado Gitano, who welcomed the participants. In addition, Luis Caballero, Deputy Director of the General Directorate of INJUVE (Youth Institute), was present to address one of the central themes of the meeting: the future Law on Youth and Intergenerational Justice. This law is of great importance for the inclusion of the needs and perspectives of Roma youth, a topic that was actively worked on during the meeting.

The event served as a space for dialogue and reflection in which Roma youth were able to share experiences and contribute ideas that could be incorporated into the future Youth Law.

Andrea González, president of the Spanish Youth Council, also took part in the conference to talk about the extensive collaboration between the two organisations in promoting active citizenship among Roma youth.

The 9th State Meeting on Participation and Youth has served to put the finishing touch to the state activities with the Network of Participation Facilitators of 2024, who have supported FSG teams in Spain throughout the year to promote the participation of Roma youth.

In 2025, we will continue to promote participation as we have been developing with this Youth Network of Participation Facilitators, with new initiatives so that their voices are heard and taken into account just like the rest.

These activities are organised within the framework of the State Programme for the Promotion of Roma Participation, financed by the State Programmes for Activities of General Interest considered to be of social interest, corresponding to the Secretary of State for Social Rights.
