Young people from the TándEM programme set Fundación Secretariado Gitano in the path of energy transition

After two months of on-site work, the students of the TándEM programme are about to finish covering Adalí Calí building's roof in Madrid, Fundación Secretariado Gitano’s main headquarters, of enough photovoltaic solar panels in order to produce energy for its own electric consumption.

A group of 12 unemployed young Roma started on 15 November 2023 their work-linked training as solar installers within the framework of the TándEM programme, funded by the Spanish State Public Employment Service within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan through European Next Generation funds.

The group of young people in Madrid will have the chance to train and gain professional experience in a key field to achieve the energy transition and decarbonisation goals which Spain, alongside other countries, has committed to meet.

This way, Fundación Secretariado Gitano also does its part for the energy transition according to the European Climate Law, with which around 65% of renewable electric generation is expected to be achieved in 2030 and 85% in 2050.

Fundación Secretariado Gitano contributes through the TándEM programme to the training of unemployed young people and, at the same time, provides the first work experience of many students through a 9-month training contract. In total, 125 young people from all over Spain will be trained and will work simultaneously in different modalities: Solar Panels, Gardening, Catering, Building Maintenance and Energy Efficiency in classroom mode, and Administration in NGOs, Communication in Digital Environments and Promotion of Health and Gender Equality in online mode.
