NGO Redi visits Fundación Secretariado Gitano to share about employment programmes for RomaA delegation from Redi made a study visit to Madrid to share experiences and projects on employment and self-employment for the Roma community

The NGO Redi, which works for the inclusion of Roma people in several Balkan countries, mainly through entrepreneurship, has visited this week the headquarters of Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) in Madrid. During this visit, the delegation of Redi professionals was able to learn more about the Acceder Programme for the employment of Roma people, which has been developed for 24 years in Spain. In addition, spaces were dedicated to the exchange of experiences on projects for the self-employment of Roma people.

During the study visit, the delegation of Redi professionals were able to learn more about how salaried employment has improved the lives of many Roma people in Spain since the implementation of the Acceder Programme, with a special focus on the programme's methodology, its close relationship with companies and its innovative and technological approach.

In the exchange of projects and experiences related to entrepreneurship and self-employment, the common points of the programmes of both entities were highlighted, such as FSG's Mercaemprende for the modernisation of street vending, or the initiatives Pappocrafts (an online platform for the sale of handmade products in Romanian artisan communities), Redi recycling (a start-up social enterprise which aims to organize and employ individual Roma collectors, while establishing a system for primary waste separation in households and companies.) or Redi's Digifast (a project to improve the digital skills of young influencers).

Redi (Roma Entrepreneurship Development Initiative) is a network of organisations focused on developing tools and ecosystems to increase the economic empowerment of Roma communities in the Western Balkans and Europe. It aims to facilitate access to affordable finance for Roma entrepreneurs and provide them with technical assistance to increase their knowledge and skills.

We hope that this visit will be the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between the two organisations working to improve the living conditions of Roma people in Europe.
