Two young Roma participants from Fundación Secretariado Gitano included in the State Council for the Participation of Children and AdolescentsAntonio Montoya, from Algeciras, and Rafa Bustamante, from Cuenca, are participants in the Fundación Secretariado Gitano programmes and their main motivation is to defend the rights of Roma children and contribute to the issues that affect them.

Antonio Montoya and Rafa Bustamante, two young Roma from Spain, have begun to participate as members of the State Council for the Participation of Children and Adolescents (CEPIA), a permanent and stable body for consultation, representation and participation of children and adolescents in Spain attached to the Ministry of Youth and Children.

These young people, who have been participating in Fundación Secretariado Gitano's programmes and in its Children and Adolescents Participation Group, have been selected to represent children. On the one hand, Antonio will represent Roma children from Fundación Secretariado Gitano and, on the other hand, Rafa is the elected representative of the Child Participation Team for Change (EPIC) of the Platform of Children's Organisations.

As part of their tasks as councillors, they will be consulted on policies and strategies of relevance to children and adolescents.

Rafa proudly comments on his experience: "I started in FSG's participation project and I am currently EPIC's representative in CEPIA, something I am proud of and motivated to continue defending the rights of children and young people".

Antonio, for his part, declares: "I feel very proud to be able to represent the children of the Roma community, to which I belong, and thus to be able to participate in important issues that are dealt with in the State Council for Children".

We at Fundación Secretariado Gitano wish them the best of luck in their new journey and trust that their participation will contribute to bringing about great changes for Roma children.
