  • The 14 students experienced a first face-to-face contact from 9th to 11th January with professionals from the media and entities.

  • Practical activities were carried out, such as the recording of a radio programme and journalistic writing exercises, including the composition of this piece of news.

The Fundación Secretariado Gitano’s national headquarters in Madrid have taken in the students of the TándEM programme of Communication in Digital Environments in its I Face-to-Face Meeting.

This programme, aimed at theoretical and practical training on corporate communication, consists of 795 hours of training. TándEM programmes are funded by the European Union - Next Generation EU and are led by the State Secretariat for Employment and Social Economy, in whose initiatives the Spanish State Public Employment Service (SEPE) participates.

The students comprising this TándEM group—9 men and 5 women between the ages of 20 and 27—follow their lessons in online format from the FSG territorial headquarters where they live. In addition, they can participate in 6 face-to-face workshops in Madrid, which implies a great chance for professional development as well as cultural and personal enrichment. In this course, 11 of the candidates are Roma.

In this meeting, held from 9th to 11th January, the students have taken face-to-face intensive classes from 9 a.m. to 18 p.m. They were in touch with professionals from different media and entities and have done a radio programme as well as writing and speech exercises.

Among other experiences, they listened to Radio Hora’s and Radio Enlace’s broadcasters, Gerardo Quintana and Paco Aragón. In addition, they met the teacher coordinator, María Leyte, from the company SmartUp, specialised in digital marketing and AI. They were also visited by Henar García, who told them about his work related to communication in a social entity, the Alberto Contador Foundation. Every speaker encouraged the students explaining how they got ahead fulfilling their personal and professional dream.

Back on their cities, these students expressed their satisfaction with the TándEM programme of Communication in Digital Environments and the humane training received these days. In an interview, one of them tells us: “The first meeting is over, but I am already looking forward to the second one. It’s a great chance to keep growing personally as well as professionally.”
