6th edition of "Dialogues for Interculturality", a space for debate, dialogue and reflection on the value of diversity [editar]

Held at the Palau Macaya in Barcelona on 12 December.

 6th edition of
  • An initiative of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, the Barcelona Office of the Club de Roma and "la Caixa" Foundation.
  • The keynote address was given by Josep Lluís Trapero, Major dels Mossos d'Escuadra, on "Democratic Police and Diversity".
  • "Interculturality and coexistence, how do we deal with interculturality in a diverse society?" was the title of the round table debate in which Blanca Garcés, Mohamed El Amrani and Sandra Heredia took part. It was moderated by Pablo Simón, political scientist, university lecturer and political analyst.
  • Jaume Collboni, Mayor of Barcelona, closed the conference.

In a context in which exclusionary discourses tend to deny or ignore diversity, or exacerbate it by emphasising difference, this conference seeks to generate a debate on the value of interculturality, of the recognition of cultural diversity as a factor of development and within the framework of Human Rights. Dialogue and debate are proposed on the basis of an universal language of citizenship, promoting equal rights and favouring intercultural relations based on respect and consideration for different cultures.

In this sixth edition, held once again at the Palau Macaya in Barcelona, representatives of the three organising entities took part in the inauguration: Jaume Lanaspa, President of the Barcelona Office of the Club de Roma; Francesc Ventura, from the "La Caixa" Foundation and Sara Giménez, President of Fundación Secretariado Gitano.

Sara Giménez, president of FSG, highlighted the objectives of these meetings: "in a context of wars, crisis and tension, it is more necessary than ever to sit down and dialogue" and recalled the relevance of the origin of these Conferences, programmed in all their editions on dates close to the International Day of Human Rights.
