The European Platform for Roma Inclusion brings together national governments, representatives of EU institutions and international organisations, as well as civil society organisations. It aims to stimulate cooperation and exchanges of experiences between different actors on successful policies and practices in relation to Roma inclusion. The opening session was attended by both the European Commission's Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli, as well as the Minister for Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 Pablo Bustinduy Amador. Commissioner Dalli was blunt in her speech, stating that "the housing situation of Roma in Europe is unacceptable", calling for an end to discrimination against Roma in housing and for greater political will to make better use of EU resources.
This edition of the European Platform for Roma Inclusion focused on how to ensure equal access to adequate and non-segregated housing for Roma and how to improve the use of national and EU funding to enable effective and equal access to housing for Roma.
To this end, both presentations and specific workshops were organised, in which the aim was to offer a complete and specific vision of the violation of essential rights and to provide solutions and good practices to these (such as housing and education) suffered by the Roma population throughout Europe.
The FSG participated in this event by contributing our experience and vision in working for equal conditions for the Roma community, and our president Sara Giménez participated as a speaker in one of the debates on the way forward to address spatial segregation and ensure equal access to decent housing.
In addition, we also participated as technical secretariat in the EURoma network, a European network to promote the use of Structural Funds to ensure the social inclusion of the Roma population.
