Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) has held the State Days for Roma Women in Madrid on July 5 and 6 at the Meta offices. Under the slogan Nuestras Voces, Nuestros Mensajes (Our Voices, Our Messages), more than 100 women participating in the programmes of the FSG have gathered in different locations, from the 14 regions where it works.

The main objective of the conference has been to encourage the participation of Roma women in issues that affect them, promote their empowerment and promote their active citizenship, as well as address the challenges they face to achieve equality.

The conference agenda included spaces for debates and workshops to promote exchange, in which key issues for their lives have been discussed. One of the fundamental issues addressed was the importance of education, training and continuous learning for social and personal promotion.

The conference was inaugurated by Sara Giménez, president of the FSG, Ana Peláez, president of the UN Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee) and Patricia Bezunartea, director general of Family Diversity and Social Services of the Ministry of Social Rights and the Agenda 2030. During her speech, Sara Giménez emphasized the challenge of education and stressed that "education is the tool that will allow each woman to be what she wants to be, both professionally and personally”.

These conferences have brought together more than 100 Roma women from different Spanish regions, participants and professionals of the programme Calí, for the equality of Roma women, developed by the FSG since 2016 and financing by the European Social Fund in the framework of the Social Inclusion and Social Economy Operational Program (POISES), the Ministry of Social Rights and the Agenda 2030 through the call for subsidies charged at 0.7%, and the “la Caixa” Foundation, among others. And its purpose is the socio-labour inclusion of Roma women in a situation of social vulnerability, through the promotion of equal opportunities, gender equality and the fight against multiple and intersectional discrimination, and support for victims of gender violence.
