Sara Heredia, a young Spanish Roma woman, participates in a European adventure “Erasmus New Challenges” [editar]

The young woman, a student of the adult education program at the Fundación Secretariado Gitano in Granada, participates in this European initiative along with 10 other young people, to learn other languages and reflect and debate on youth issues.

The EUTEKA Association, whose objective is to promote changes on European problems to produce changes in society, has promoted this project to give 10 young people opportunities to learn other languages, discover other cultures, promote values of equality and solidarity and establish personal contacts. A whole life experience, since, for the vast majority, it will be their first trip abroad and a true window on the world.

It is an initiative framed within the Development Strategy of the European Union EUROPA 2020 for social inclusion. It is directed towards young people who face social exclusion with the aim that its beneficiaries improve their skills and motivation and can achieve their goals and dreams.

Sara, 18 years old, is a Roma woman who is very committed to the cause and the feeling of European citizenship: “I consider this activity as a great opportunity to grow as a person, nourishing myself with other cultures, making friends and showcasing that Europe is a set of many elements, including the Roma people, who have settled in the territory for many centuries. You cannot think of Europe and not talk about the Roma, I believe that many contributions must be made so that discrimination is left as a thing of the past and I encourage other Roma girls to participate in actions of this type because they are all beneficial: you get to know new places, people who make you grow and help you to be more tolerant and aware of your rights and obligations as a European citizen”.

We trust that it will be an enriching experience with all the activities that are organized for the group of young people that participate and that it will have a very positive impact on their lives.
