Delegation of the Greek government visits the Fundación Secretariado Gitano to know more about our programmes

A delegation of the Greek Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, headed by Mr. Georgios Stamatis, Secretary General for Social Solidarity and Fight Against Poverty and EU National Contact Point for Roma visited Fundación Secretariado Gitano headquarters in Madrid during this week.

In this visit, the Greek team has held a meeting with Patricia Bezunartea, Director General of Family Diversity and Social Services of the Ministry of Social Rights and 2030 Agenda and Spanish National Roma Contact Point, to share views on the policies for the social inclusion of Roma in Spain and Greece. Also, due to the key role of the housing policies for vulnerable people in Greece, a meeting was held with Jose María García Gómez, Vice-counsellor of Housing and Territorial Planning of the Region of Madrid, and Eusebio Gonzalez, Director of Social Area in the Agency for Social Housing of the region of Madrid.

The Greek delegation  also met with our teams of employment, education and social inclusion to know first-hand the projects and approaches of Fundación Secretariado Gitano to reduce social inequalities and to defend the rights of Roma people, particularly the Acceder Programme for the employment of Roma and the Promociona for the education of Roma students, as well as FSG’s initiatives and approaches for the decent housing of Roma people.

In particular, a round table with some of the companies that collaborate with the Acceder was held, in which representatives of Accenture Foundation, Carrefour, Enterprise and Eulen, together with the Roma entrepreneur Noemí González, founder of Uñakas, shared their views on the keys to successfully collaborate with the Acceder Programme.

The Greek delegation showed their interest in getting to know the continuous work of FSG in order to learn from our approaches and discuss how they could be considered in the Greek context.

As they confirmed, knowing more about these initiatives and the Spanish policies for Roma inclusion was very useful and an inspiration for the policies to improve the situation of Roma in Greece.
