Energy Transition, an opportunity for the employment of the most vulnerable

The project "Energy transition, an opportunity for the employment of the most vulnerable" arises with the aim of training young Roma in occupations related to the opportunities of the energy sector and the energy transition.

In the presentation of this project, we have had the support of Luis Salaya, Mayor of Cáceres, Víctor García Vega, Secretary General of the Regional Public Employment Service and Juan Carlos Pardo, head of sales at EDP Spain.

The "EDP Solidaria 2022" program is an initiative developed by the EDP Foundation that aims to promote sustainable projects focused on mitigating social needs by promoting life quality improvement and the integration of vulnerable groups.

The project "Energy transition, an opportunity for the employment of the most vulnerable" is financed by EDP and developed as a consortium between Fundación Secretariado Gitano and Fundación Laboral de la Construcción (Labour Foundation for Construction).

During 9 months, 12 young Roma men and women in vulnerable situations will be trained in emerging occupations related to the energy sector.

The participants will be trained in technical tasks related to the assembly and maintenance of photovoltaic solar installations both in power generation plants and in self-consumption facilities. The theoretical training -522 hours- will be complemented with 120 hours of internships in companies along with an personal mentorship pathway.

After completing the course, participants will be able to enter the job market in the energy industry, a clearly growing sector.
