The TánDEM programme of Fundación Secretariado Gitano begins cycle of face-to-face meetings

The TánDEM programme of Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) has held the first two face-to-face meetings with the students of the online sub-programmes "Intercultural Mediation" and "Support and Maintenance of Computer Systems".

TánDEM, a new training and employment programme aimed at providing professional training and at facilitating the inclusion of unemployed young people under the age of 30, is an initiative of the Spanish State Public Employment Service (SEPE) in the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan with funding from Next Generation - EU.

FSG will carry out in 2023 4 sub-programmes that will train a total of 50 Roma people for 12 months (3 months of basic training followed by 9 months of work, during which 35% of the working day will be dedicated to training).

The 4 sub-programmes cover "Maintenance and landscaping of green areas" in the cities of Lugo and Avilés (22 trainees will carry out, during the working phase, the refurbishment and conservation of green spaces in the cities); "Intercultural and community mediation with the Roma population" (16 trainees from different Spanish cities will be trained online and, during the working phase, will provide support services for actions and programmes in the socio-educational, socio-labour, socio-health and community areas in FSG offices); "Support and maintenance of computer systems and departmental networks" (12 students from different cities will also carry out the training in the online modality and, in the recruitment phase, they will work as assistants in each office in the FSG's IT area).

The training with the students of the 4 sub-programmes started on 29 December 2022 and since then it is being carried out simultaneously in 28 different cities. In January, two face-to-face meetings were held in Madrid as part of the Intercultural Mediation and Support and Maintenance of Computer Systems training.

On 17, 18 and 19 January 2023, a total of 16 young people who are being trained as intercultural mediators travelled to Madrid where they had the opportunity to meet in person and work in groups, after almost a month of virtual training.

On the other hand, the 12 young people from the support and maintenance of computer systems course travelled to Madrid on 24, 25 and 26 January to put into practice everything they had learnt during their virtual training, assembling and disassembling computers, setting up printers, etc.

During their stay in Madrid, the two groups took the opportunity to visit the most emblematic places in the city, visiting the Prado Museum and the Retiro Park. These have been intense days of travel, work, but also an opportunity to get to know each other and share with colleagues, teachers and coordinators of the FSG. Throughout the year, more meetings of this kind are planned, which have been highly valued by all the participants.
