FSG Internacional
This event, organised by the Konak City Council together with Roma associations in the region, is part of the Roma Action Plan, which aims to improve the living conditions of Roma in Konak, the district with the largest Roma population in Turkey. The event was attended by political representatives, including the mayor of Konak, Abdül Batur, representatives of public institutions and NGOs, representatives of civil society and other European organisations with experience in working with the Roma community.
Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) was invited to this workshop to share its experience and lessons learned in the social inclusion of Roma people after 40 years of work. In particular, our intervention focused on sharing the data and conclusions drawn from the Evaluation of the results and impact of the programme, prepared on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Acceder programme.
During this time, Acceder programme has accompanied 109,875 people, of whom 82,091 have participated in training and employment programmes; 33,344 of them have finally obtained a job. During this time, 91,733 employment contracts have been signed and 15,967 companies have collaborated with Acceder, data that have made it the backbone of the FSG's activity. This shows that the effects of Acceder not only have an impact on those who participate in its training and employment pathways, but also on their families and environment, since access to the labour market as an employee contributes both to transforming the lives of Roma people and to improving their employability and social promotion.
The data and the impact of the Acceder programme after more than 20 years of implementation in Spain show that long-term and sustainable policies can transform the reality of the most vulnerable people. We hope that this example can serve as an inspiration for the development of transformative employment policies on the Konak district that will help to improve the lives of Roma in Turkey.
