Fundación Secretariado Gitano participates at the European Employment and Social ForumFundación Secretariado Gitano was invited to participate at this forum to provide our knowledge and experience on how the digital transformation is affecting the most vulnerable groups, as the Roma people

The European Employment and Social Rights Forum (EESRF), organised by the European Commission, took place on 16-17 November 2022 in Brussels. This first edition of the event focused on how to achieve a fair and inclusive green transition for all.

For two days, the event brought together more than 1200 participants and 75 speakers with political interventions from the European Parliament, the Czech Presidency, President von der Leyen and Commissioner Schmit, former Commission President Juncker, the Belgian and Greek governments and also academics, citizens and companies who shared their views on how to make the green transition a success for our societies.

Fundación Secretariado Gitano was invited to participate at the session A fair digital transition: digital rights and principles in the new world of work, to provide our knowledge and experience on how the digital transformation is affecting the most vulnerable groups, as the Roma people. During the session, we shared information on the employment programme Acceder, which for more than 20 years is working to improve the social and economics rights of Roma through employment, on the Empleando Digital project, which improves the digital skills of Roma and their opportunities in the technological sector. Finally, considering the experience and perspective of 40 years of FSG, a series of recommendations were provided, to contribute to improve the situation of disadvantaged groups, such as Roma:

  • To reinforce the explicit mention of the social exclusion in the funding instruments (trying to go beyond the necessary focus on vulnerable people).
  • In the innovative and green plans and projects, there should be explicit opportunities described for vulnerable and socially excluded people to be able to take advantage of the training and employment opportunities, for example, in the form of social clauses.

We hope that this event has continuity in coming years to keep reflecting and improving on the employment and social rights of those most vulnerable.
