Roma children involved in Fundación Secretariado Gitano's programmes present their conclusions to key actors at the World Children's Day event

They give voice to the conclusions in the presence of authorities such as the Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda, Lilith Verstrynge, and the Director of the Office of the High Commissioner against Child Poverty, Carmen Gayo.

Around 460 Roma children and teenagers from different Spanish regions have drawn up their proposals in the participation process launched by Fundación Secretariado Gitano as a member of the Platform of Children's Organisations for the Commemoration of World Children's Rights Day 2022, with the slogan "We participate! It's our right".

Some of their main concerns have been: defending the right to inclusive and quality education for all, combating school failure and ending segregation, as well as defending the right to decent housing and a safe and non-segregated environment.

This participatory process culminated in the Children's Day event held on 18 November, which was attended by authorities such as Lucía Losoviz Adani, Director General for Children's and Adolescents' Rights, Lilith Verstrynge, Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda, Carmen Gayo, Director of the Office of the High Commissioner against Child Poverty and Carles López Picó, President of the Children's Platform, to listen to the proposals of the groups of children who participated in the event and give them a response. Among these representatives we could find the protagonists who have conveyed the conclusions of the Roma children, the Children's Participation Group of Madrid: Michelle, Yoel, Reyes and Estefanía.

Fundación Secretariado Gitano would like to thank the organisations and institutions for promoting this opportunity for children and adolescents to put forward their proposals and opinions on an equal footing. We are also grateful for the participation of Roma children and teenagers, and we hope that all their proposals and concerns will be taken into account in the elaboration of measures concerning children's issues.

These activities are organised within the framework of the State Programme for the Promotion of the Participation of the Roma Population, financed by the State Programmes of Activities of General Interest considered to be of social interest, corresponding to the Secretary of State for Social Rights, and have been developed in collaboration with the Platform of Children's Organisations.
