Amazon and Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) have signed a collaboration agreement at national level with the aim of promoting equality and favoring the employment opportunities of Roma people, especially women. This collaboration demonstrates the commitment of both entities towards diversity, equality and inclusion, in order to facilitate the incorporation of Roma people into the labour market through the implementation of joint actions.
The agreement also envisages collaboration in "Amazon Fosters", a training programme that provides an introductory experience to the logistics sector and the operation of Amazon stations, helping to acquire skills and offering opportunities for inclusion to disadvantaged groups
Participants in this programme acquire basic operational knowledge of an Amazon logistics station, with theoretical content and hands-on training, where they become familiar with all logistics processes and the required skills to work in the sector. The programme ends with a next steps session on how to apply for a job in Amazon's logistics network.
According to Isidro Rodríguez, director of Fundación Secretariado Gitano, "this agreement allows us to promote the social and labour inclusion of Roma people in alliance with a large company like Amazon. The labour market is changing rapidly, and Roma people cannot be left behind. This alliance also supports us in the incorporation of Roma women in under-represented sectors that lack point of reference, which means improving their working conditions, contributing to their personal autonomy and their professional development prospects".
In addition, Paolo Patrone, director of Amazon Logistics for Spain, said: "With initiatives like this we want to raise awareness at all levels about the importance of creating opportunities for everyone. Our goal is that together we all move towards the development of a diverse culture to create a truly inclusive work environment. With this agreement, Roma people will have the possibility to have easier access to the labour market”.
Main lines of collaboration
The Fundación Secretariado Gitano will participate in Amazon's selection processes, adapting the applications of its participants to the required profiles. Motivation sessions, information on the sector and professional guidance for participants in the FSG's Acceder programme will also be set up. Both entities will design training actions and carry out joint awareness-raising actions aimed at Amazon's staff, with the objective of contributing to the knowledge and elimination of stereotypes towards Roma people, and to value inclusive, diverse and intercultural workplaces.
