FSG is recognized as a consultative entity by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations Organization -ECOSOC

Since last July 21, 2022, during its regular period of management meetings, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations decided to grant special consultative status to Fundación Secretariado Gitano.

This is a status that recognizes the FSG as an entity with the capacity to carry out consultative work with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Since its inception in 1945, the United Nations has worked actively with non-governmental organizations and has recognized the importance of partnering with them to further the Organization's ideals and helps to promote its work. The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is the main body for coordinating the economic and social activities of the United Nations, and its specialized agencies and institutions.

The Council consults civil society groups, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the private sector, and it is the main body that recommends that NGOs be granted consultative status. These organizations are allowed to participate, submit written contributions and make statements to the Council and its subsidiary bodies.

NGOs recognized by the ECOSOC represent the whole world and work in different fields, such as education, health, poverty eradication, human rights, gender equality and indigenous issues.

Consultative status is a formal relationship between NGOs and the United Nations that allows NGOs to participate in the work of the Organization. ECOSOC is the only entry point into the United Nations system for NGOs with a formal framework for NGO participation.

The consultative status of the FSG is a great opportunity to strengthen the inclusion of the issues that most affect the Roma community in the Council's work.
