The FSG's Roma Children and Youth Participation Group gathers at its 2nd National Meeting to reflect on their rights

More than 25 Roma children and teenagers from all over Spain, met in Madrid to discuss and reflect on child and youth participation and on other issues that affect them.

The participants of the FSG's Roma Children and Youth Participation Group have a lot to say, as they have demonstrated at the 2nd Meeting of Roma Children and Youth held in Madrid on 23 June.

The sessions were opened by Lucia Losoviz, Director General of Childhood and Youth Rights of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, who encouraged the participants to continue reflecting on their rights, stating that adults and institutions had to work to ensure that they are guaranteed.

Mayte Suárez, Deputy Director General for Human and Territorial Development of the FSG, also accompanied the participants and told the group that the FSG is increasingly committed to childhood and youth participation so that their voices are taken into account in the same way as the rest of the population.

During the event, participants took part in workshops with games and activities on children's and youth rights. In particular, the right to PARTICIPATE, EXPRESS, GIVE OPINIONS AND BE LISTENED!

The event also allowed the group to get to know each other better and to form a closer relationship, since, until now, they had not been able to meet face-to-face.

The participants were accompanied by their Mentors, who, in turn, participated on a workshop on "adultcentrism" to work on beliefs related to the autonomy of children and teenagers when it comes to making their own decisions.

The participants expressed very positive feedback about the experience of the workshops and asked for more spaces where they could express their concerns.

These activities are organised within the framework of the State Programme for the Promotion of Roma Participation, funded by the State Programmes for Activities of General Interest considered to be of social interest (0.7%), under the State Secretariat for Social Rights.
