Fundación Secretariado Gitano
The awareness-raising campaign The Challenge of Tomorrow has been launched in order to call for more effective active employment policies for the Roma community and to highlight the results of the 20 years of Acceder, a training and employment programme run by the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, that has helped, over the last two decades, 33.300 people to gain access to employment and more than 82.000 people to improve their employability.
On 1st December 2021, the Fundación Secretariado Gitano launched #TheChallengeOfTomorrow, a project that shows new pieces of our awareness-raising campaign Bread for Tomorrow, in which we are calling for opportunities, training and employment for the Roma community. We did so in the framework of the results and impact presentation of the 20th anniversary of our Acceder training and employment programme.
The 16-minute documentary The Challenge of Tomorrow draws a similarity between access to employment and a high-risk sport, in this case, canyoning. Four young Roma participants in the Fundación Secretariado Gitano's Acceder employment programme, Isabel González-Pantoja, Manuela González, Eleazar Jiménez and Joaquín Amador, share their personal stories and talk about how employment has improved their lives as they face a new challenge: canyoning. This comparison is the creative backbone of the campaign. The documentary is filmed by Roma filmmaker Pablo Vega and produced by the agency Implícate.
A trailer of this documentary was screened during the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Acceder programme, which took place at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid on 1st December.
In addition to the audiovisual materials, the campaign also has a website www.panparamañana.org, a downloadable digital book and a series of graphics for dissemination on social networks.
The main objective of this awareness-raising material is to focus on the right for Roma people to have a decent job, to make visible the efforts of young Roma in order to improve their lives through training and employment, and to enhance the transformative role of the Acceder programme.
#TheChallengeOfTomorrow is the second stage of a campaign that started in 2020, “Bread for Tomorrow", and with which we demand active employment policies for the Roma community. The spot “RZ Generation”, several short humorous videos entitled "I live on support", as well as some posters and pieces created specifically for social networks, compose the “Bread for Tomorrow" campaign, a platform for young Roma to demand opportunities, training and employment.
Throughout 2022, this social awareness-raising material will be disseminated all over Spain, both at regional and local events. We will be linking the contents in this post.
The campaign is funded by the programme "For Solidarity. Other Purposes of Social Interest", of the Ministry of Social Rights and 2030 Agenda, and the European Social Fund.
