The European Commission recognises their importance (through the Directorate General of Justice and the Directorate General of Regio) and aims to renew its forums for consultation with civil society organizations.
Independent non-governmental organizations are a vital component of European society, exercising freedom of expression and association, both fundamental to democracy. Recognizing its importance, the European Commission (through the Directorate General of Justice and the Directorate General of Regio) seeks to renew its forums for consultation with civil society organizations. And that is why, after an admission process, from FSG we can confirm our participation in:
- Consultation forum for Roma and pro-Roma civil society organizations (DG Justice). The objective is to promote their partnership work on equality, inclusion and participation of Roma, as set out in the EU Strategic Framework for Roma approved on October 7, 2020. In this line, participation is one of the strategic axes of this Framework, along with equality and inclusion. For this reason, the Commission promotes the participation of civil society through consultation forums to create a communication channel to promote the analysis and propose the main lines of the policies of the European Union and the Member States in relation to the Roma population for the next ten years.
- Consultation forum for civil society organizations for the implementation of the EU action plan against racism (DG Justice). On September 18, 2020, the European Commission adopted an ambitious EU action plan against racism that sets out a series of measures for the next 5 years. The Commission will implement and monitor this action plan with the participation of people who are victims of racism and discrimination. To this end, this Consultation Forum provides for regular dialogues with Member States, equality bodies and representatives at the local level, as well as with civil society organizations that represent the concerns of affected people. The Commission will meet regularly, at least twice a year, with civil society organizations active in the fight against racism at European, national and local level to assess progress in the fight against racism.
- Expert group on European funds (DG Regio) established by Regulation (EU) No. 1060/2021 of the European Parliament and of the Council. In this consultation group the main objectives will be to assist the Commission in matters related to the implementation of funds under the Common Provisions Regulation; monitor the evolution of the partnership policy and multi-level governance; and finally to promote an exchange experiences and good practices on partnership and multilevel governance. In this group of experts we have been admitted by acting as Technical Secretariat of the European Network for the inclusion of the Roma population under the ESI Funds (EURoma).
Through FSG’s participation in these three consultation groups we keep participating from the front line of incidence in the most relevant European topics for the present and the future of the social entities that work for the full inclusion and the access to rights of the Roma Population.
