Fundación Secretariado Gitano presents the project Empleando Digital in the European Vocational Skills Week 2020

In the framework of the European Vocational Skills Week (9-13 November 2020), Fundación Secretariado Gitano has participated in the high-level event ‘Apprenticeships and the twin green and digital transitions’, sharing the challenges and opportunities of the innovative project Empleando Digital

This event is organised by the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA), as part of a series of sessions that have discussed how green and digital skills in vocational education and training (VET) through apprenticeships can bring employment opportunities. EAfA has identified the adoption of digital and green skills as an essential part of making vocational education and training more modern, attractive and flexible to young people entering the workplace in the digital age and during the green transition.

From Fundación Secretariado Gitano, we have contributed to the panel ‘Apprenticeships and digital skills: challenges and opportunities’, sharing our experience with the project Empleando Digital, developed between 2017 and 2019, in collaboration with the Spanish Red Cross and Foundation Accenture, and cofounded by Foundation Accenture and the European Social Fund.

The main objective of this project was to contribute to the improvement of the labour inclusion and the digital skills of the most vulnerable people (among them, Roma people) in the digitalised labour market. Through training actions focused on digital skills, both in the IT sector as in more traditional ones, but that are being impacted by technology, Empleando Digital helped almost 10,000 people to improve their digital skills and knowledges.

In the discussion several key topics to benefit the digital skills training of the most vulnerable, became evident: the on-going support of European funds, the close collaboration among social entities and companies, and to assure the access of vulnerable people to technology and connectivity on equal conditions.

The project Empleando Digital was awarded one year ago, in the previous European Vocational Skills Week, with the VET Excellence Awards, in the cathegory European Funding for Excellence.
