The Acceder travels abroad. New project in North MacedoniaBegining of the process of transference of the Acceder Programme, of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG), to North Macedonia

In these weeks the Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) begins its participation in the project Creating Job Opportunities for All, in North Macedonia, implemented jointly with United Nations for Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Macedonian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies (MLSP) and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project strongly focuses on enhancing the employability and facilitating employment of the most vulnerable persons, and particularly Roma. This programme is born to improve the situation of Roma and other vulnerable persons, as population segments exposed to multiple barriers in accessing the labour market in North Macedonia. The collaboration of the FSG in this project will be carried out during the first two years (2020-2022), providing the know-how and experience with the Spanish Acceder programme. This task is done from the International Department, with the support of the Employment Department and Spanish Acceder professional experts. The activities to develop include the adaptation of the methodology to the Macedonian reality and the training to the two NGO staff that will implement the Acceder employment programme in the municipalities of Prilep and Tetovo. The FSG will also elaborate proposals for policies that would facilitate the access to the labour market for Roma and other vulnerable groups, and policies and measures for the effective inclusion of the Acceder principles into the mainstream public social and employment policies and programmes to improve Roma access to those services. During these two years we will also be able to follow the NGO progress on the ground and monitor their performance, adjusting the actions and facilitating support and coaching sessions in order to assure a successful transference of the Acceder programme.

Due to the exceptional situation with the COVID-19 crisis, we are adapting the planned actions at the beginning of the project in order to take the Acceder to North Macedonia using by now telematic media (online training, Teams meetings, etc.), until it is possible to normally travel.

North Macedonia is a young country with approximately 2 millions inhabitants, and almost 55.000 Roma people. The country also has a large representation of Albanian population (25% of the entire population), as well as Turkish, Bosnian and Serbs, providing an opportunity to work from an intercultural approach. Until 1991 North Macedonia was part of the former Yugoslavia, when the country declared its independency.

The collaboration in this project is a real challenge for the FSG, that involves carrying our experience of two decades of success with the Acceder programme to new realities around us, contributing to enhance the life of Roma people.

We’ll keep informing on the advances in this project in the web page
