The FSG participates at the European Conference for the preparation of the Child GuaranteeThe proposal to launch a Child Guarantee in the EU was born from a Resolution of the European Parliament (EP) on November 24, 2015; In 2017, the EP urged the European Commission and Member States to move forward and explore, with a Preparatory Action, the viability of a Child Guarantee for children in vulnerable situations..

On February 17th, the European Commission organized a Conference where the results of a Feasibility Study for Child Guarantee were presented and discussed with a broad set of European actors and from various European countries. The need for this European initiative / framework to ensure that the most disadvantaged children in the European Union (EU) - in institutions, migrants and refugees, belonging to ethnic minorities, disabled people ... - has access to 5 was highlighted key areas: adequate nutrition, free education, free health care, decent housing and free early education and care.

Among other issues, the meaning of the concept of “guarantee” and “the most vulnerable” was discussed, the importance of political will to boost it and the barriers with which it can be found, the role that the Fund should play European Social in the implementation of this initiative, among other issues.

Following this conference, the European Commission will continue to examine and design a proposal for a future Child Guarantee in the EU aimed at reducing the inequalities of European children, especially as regards child poverty.

In an estimated way, it is expected to have a Child Guarantee for the year 2021.
